where to go
The Old Town Pub, 66 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, CA
The venue is not visible from the street. The Pub is between buildings, behind the Container Store and restaurants. It is accessible in the alleys behind them.
If you park in the lot at Union and Fair Oaks, exit to Union and cross the street to the restaurants: Union and Perle (both really good!). Take the alley next to Perle a handful of steps then turn left on the next small alley (behind the restaurants). Pass big trash cans and the Pub is on the left. You can also follow an alley from Holly, the street parallel and just north of Union. We’ll look out for you.
when to go
SUNDAY, APRIL 19. 4:00-5:00 pm is an open mix and mingle. Meet fellow bandmates, ask us questions, get a drink or five. It ain’t high fallutin’ - more of a beer & wine kinda joint.
5:00 pm - The Skizzlz party promptly begins and ends at 7:00 pm. You’re welcome to hang out after.
what to wear
Go all out or keep it simple. It’s 1984. Anything that gives the flavor of the era, the band, and the character is a good way to go. It should be fun, no pressure. Footwear - you’ll generally be standing, walking , or dancing ‘cause ‘80s! Also, the venue is indoor/outdoor.
what to bring
John Taylor of Duran Duran. Also, feel free to carry any printed reference material - character, notes or even character props. It’s best to keep personal items to a minimum since there’s little space to put them down .
WHEN YOU ARRIVE:
We encourage joining in the 4-5pm hour to familiarize yourself and meet the other bandmates and players, ask us any questions, and grab a drink.
Everyone will be given a required name-tag to identify characters.
We’ll begin with a brief intro and introduce the bands. Then you’ll be free to get busy with the tasks, goals, and drama in your Character Descriptions. In addition, we’ll subtly slip you Action Cards throughout the party. These are for your eyes only, and you must act on them right away - many are coordinated with other characters’ actions.
This is not a seated event. You’ll mill around, talking/arguing/laughing/dancing as you wish with other characters, gathering for toasts, etc.
HOW TO PLAY:
You don’t have to memorize it all! Bring your character, a cheat sheet, whatever helps for reference. Also, your character description is only a starting point! While you must follow action cards, beyond that, can play as big as you feel comfortable, and do whatever you think your character would do. Don't withhold info - especially if it helps you sabotage your enemies! As long as you honor the information you’ve been given, feel free to expand and embellish.
We’ll be guide bigger events like major announcements, the VidTV winner, and end reveal of the WhoDunnits.
SOME RULES:
Stay in character once the mystery starts! But fine to ask us questions.
You cannot lie when asked a direct question, but you can be sneaky with your answers.
You cannot ask - “Did you kill X?” directly. Get creative.
Please don’t manhandle others or engage in physical altercations.
You cannot kill someone - or die - unless an action card or one of us specifically tells you to do so.
If you get a directive that you’re uncomfortable doing, not to worry,let us know, and we’ll make an adjustment. No one will be asked to disrobe!
